WikiSpooks specific help
WikiSpooks uses the default 'MediaWiki' sections (namespaces) to separate content. An overview of this structure is provided here. In addition WikiSpooks has a custom section (namespace) called "Document".
In a standard 'mediaWiki' site the bulk of the user content is contained in two sections using 4 namespaces.
- Files - containing all files that have been uploaded by users - plus their associated discussion pages.
- Main - containing user originated articles and their associated discussion pages.
WikiSpooks uses the additional "Document" section for user 'copy-and-paste' type documents which are intended to represent articles/documents originating elsewhere but which are not being uploaded as 'doc, pdf, sgl or other allowable document/media file types. Such documents are an alternative to providing external links to important documents. Such links are subject to the vagaries of other organisations and their webmasters and therefore less secure as a reference source for WikiSpooks articles. For example, as of Spring 2010, archived documents from the London Times are behind a firewall that requires payment for access, which renders all article links to The Times close to useless for ad-hoc research purposes.
- Note: When creating such documents it is important to precede the document name with "Document:". For example, such a document with the proposed name of "Foo" should be entered as "Document:Foo". This ensures that it is indexed to the correct namespace such that this type of document is easily distinguishable from regular user-contributed articles.
Editing of these pages is possible but a dim view will be taken of anyone who edits them for ANY reason other than to correct obvious errors (spelling mistakes and suchlike) or to improve presentation and readability. Discussion pages are, as usual, a free-for-all.
All the other sections (namespaces) on WikiSpooks are concerned with site information and utilities most of which are also open to registered user editing.
There are also 3 additional namespaces plus their associated 'Talk' pages, making 6 in total, associated with the Semantic MediaWiki (SMW) extension. These are:
- Property
- Type &
- Concept
All Pages about the project itself are prefixed with either "WikiSpooks:" or "Project:" which are synonymous. The main project page, which is a sort of home page for the WikiSpooks project itself, is accessed from the "The Project" option on the left hand navigation menu. The "The Software" option on the same menu is concerned with the site software - ie MediaWiki and its extensions.
NOTE:
- As a service to "whistle-blowers", WikiSpooks encourages and accepts anonymous uploads, through a separate secure system.
- To author/edit WikiSpooks content or to use the regular (ie NON-anonymous) document upload facility, you must be registered and logged in to the site.
