As U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, Mellon created a new division of the federal government, the Federal Bureau of Narcotics, and appointed Harry Anslinger, as the new head of that group. Some sources have claimed that Anslinger was a relative by marriage, but documentation on this point remains elusive.[1]
