Barbara Alice Wise was a "Commerce Department (International Trade Administration) secretary and associate of John Huang found bruised and partially nude in a locked office at Commerce. Cause of death unknown. 11/29/96"[1][2]

Barbara Wise "was suspected of leaking Commerce documents exposing the Chinese espionage."[2]

Farish, of the police homicide unit, said no obvious signs of foul play were found in Wise's office."[3] On 1 December the Baltimore Sun reported that Washington Police ruled out foul play on 30 November.[4]
