A political revolution that topples the government in a country by uprising of the population.

Colour Revolution is a term that is used by worldwide media to describe various movements that developed in several countries of the former Soviet Union, People's Republic of China and the Balkans during the early 2000s. These colour revolutions were a set of regime changes.

Concerns

People who are fed up, for one reason or another, with the general situation in their respective nation state, are to be found in any population at any point in time. If there are to many of them and demonstrations start to happen, it usually leads to intervention by government forces and repression, or success on the side of the protesters and the creation of a new government. These people are and have always been, sought for by foreign governments for recruiting to influence the situation in that nation and to get rid of the current government in some way or another.

Full spectrum dominance

William Engdahl in his book: "Full Spectrum Dominance: Totalitarian Democracy in the New World Order" opines that the United States government has perfected colour revolutions as a tool against adversarial governments with the implementation of new technologies such as social media and special education for leaders of protests via fronts such as USAID and NED.[1] Swarming is one of the operational techniques used on the ground to outmanoeuvre government forces.[2]

George Soros

George Soros through his foundation network is credited with influencing protests in a variety of nation states.
