David Cohen was Deputy Director for Operations (DDO) in the Central Intelligence Agency. Joël van der Reijden summarises Cohen as a protege of William Casey, Robert Gates and John Deutch.[1]

Background

David Cohen received his MA in political Science from Boston University in 1966, joined the CIA and became an intelligence analyst in Vietnam, where he was accused of manipulating data to please his superiors.

Career

In the mid 1980s CIA director William Casey and his deputy Robert Gates made Cohen senior project manager of a report that had to make it look as if the Soviets were behind the 1981 assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II (which was actually CIA/NATO/Stay Behind/Gray Wolves linked). In 1991 he testified in favor of Robert Gates being nominated director of the CIA, which soon resulted in Cohen being appointed as deputy director for intelligence. In 1995 another CIA chief, John Deutch, appointed him deputy director of operations.[1]

He worked for CIA asset company American International Group from November 2000 to January 2002 following his career in the Central Intelligence Agency, doing "global risk assessment".

NYPD

After the September 11 attacks, he was the first to hold a new position, that of Deputy Commissioner of Intelligence for the New York City Police Department - created after 9-11.
