David Seth Kotkin, known professionally as David Copperfield, is an American magician, described by Forbes as the most commercially successful magician in history.[1]

He was listed in Jeffrey Epstein's black book.

Private Carribean island

In 2006, Copperfield bought eleven Bahamian islands called Musha Cay.[2] Renamed "The Islands of Copperfield Bay", the islands are a private resort.[3] Musha Cay is surrounded by three smaller islands that maintain its guests' privacy. There can only be one group of guests, numbering up to twenty-four, at any one time.[4]

Guests have reportedly included Oprah Winfrey and John Travolta. Google co-founder Sergey Brin was married there.[5]

Sexual assault allegations

In 2007, former beauty queen Lacey Carroll accused Copperfield of sexually assaulting her after whisking her to his $50 million private island in the Bahamas. The FBI investigated Copperfield for two years and even raided Copperfield’s Las Vegas warehouse, before closing the case with no official explanation. Carroll was later charged with prostitution and making false sexual assault accusations against another man, in Washington state.[6]

In 2018, Copperfield was accused of drugging and assaulting 17-year-old model in 1988. Brittney Lewis said this after she competed in a modeling contest held by Elite Model Management, in which Copperfield was a judge. Soon after the contests, Copperfield invited her to one of his upcoming shows in California. Since Lewis was still a minor, Copperfield asked permission from her grandmother. After the show, Lewis said, Copperfield invited her to a bar. She said she had barely touched her drink when she noticed him pouring something into her glass. She said she took a few sips after that and blacked out. The rest is hazy. She said she remembers bits and pieces of that night, mostly flashes of herself being carried out to a cab, and him inside her hotel room wearing a black robe with shoulder pads, before being sexually assaulted. The magazine TheWrap spoke to Lewis’ best friend from high school, husband, ex-husband, and grandmother — her primary caretaker at the time — all of whom said Lewis told them decades ago about her accusations against Copperfield. Brittney Lewis also contacted the FBI in 2007, after seeing reports of the Lacey Carroll case.[6]

Sham marriage accusation

In 1997, Copperfield and Claudia Schiffer sued Paris Match for $30 million after the magazine claimed their relationship was a sham, that Schiffer was paid for pretending to be Copperfield's fiancé and that she did not even like him. In 1999, they won an undisclosed sum and a retraction from Paris Match.[7][8]

According to press reports, Copperfield has a son and a daughter with the Czech model Maria Petličková. Petličková lives with the children in a villa near Las Vegas. The $1.5 million property is owned by a Copperfield company.[9]
