It's fair to say that Nadine Dorries MP is loathed by elite liberals in Britain, so its interesting that she would try to pander to them by offering what is essentially internet censorship; anti Free Speech legislation. Liberals on Twitter for example, including MPs, are calling her bluff as Dorries herself has been accused of "hate speech", "extremism" and peddling "conspiracy theories", so its peculiar that this is her number one agenda as a cabinet minister. Principled liberals, conservatives, libertarians and socialists oppose this, but the government is pushing ahead. Since the Queens Speech in May the proposals for the Online Safety Bill have been a very slippery slope. It started as stopping death threats, preventing violence, then protecting children on the internet, then became a crackdown on trolls, and now its to prevent the spread of conspiracy theories and misinformation. As the new UK/Culture Secretary said, "When harm is caused, we're coming after it"[1] What could go wrong? I'm interested in what others think.

She is like Matt Hancock, she will be used to get this bill trough, then discarded when the agenda has been implemented. One of the few spanners in the works during COVID was the still strong flow of free information online. Now they are taking care of it everywhere, in lockstep.
