Escalante, whose service was vaunted for its U.S. spy network, claimed that the Texas group was headed by George H. W. Bush and Jack Crichton.”

Escalante wrote in The Secret War: CIA Covert Operations Against Cuba, 1959-62 that Jack Alston Crichton and George H. W. Bush were active in raising funds for Operation 40.[2]
