Connections

As is standard for NATO Secretaries General, George Robertson attended the Bilderberg group prior to being awarded the job (in 1998).[1][2]

Willem Matser

Full article: Rated 3/5 Willem Matser

As NATO Secretary General, George Robertson saw adviser Willem Matser on a daily basis.[3] On 3rd February 2003, Matser, a Dutch Military Intelligence officer, was arrested in his office at NATO HQ in Brussels on suspicion of laundering around USD 200 million for a Colombian drug cartel.[4][5] Also arrested were Pietro Fedino, a crime boss connected to the Columbian Cali cartel and Willem van Voorthuizen, a Dutch estate agent and serial fraudster.[6][7][8]. The money laundering charged was dropped, but Matser was later found guilty of forgery and fraud.[9][10]

Dunblane Massacre

Robertson's three children are former pupils of the school in Dunblane where in 1996 gunman Thomas Hamilton murdered 16 children and their teacher. After the massacre, Mr Robertson, a long-time resident of the town, acted as a spokesman for the victims' families. He was also a key figure in the subsequent campaign that led to the ban on handguns in Great Britain.
