Belgian Flemish politician.

Gwendolyn Rutten is a Belgian-Flemish politician. She was the chairwoman of the Flemish liberal party (VLD) from 2012 until March 22, 2020.

Career

From 1999 to 2002 she was a staff employee of the then VLD chairman Karel De Gucht at the party secretariat in Brussels. Subsequently, she started working for the European institutions. From 2002 to 2004 she was Deputy Administrator of the Constitutional Affairs Committee in the European Parliament and from 2004 to 2005 Administrator for the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS).

She then became Head of Cabinet for General Policy, first from 2005 to 2007 for Deputy Prime Minister of the Flemish region, Fientje Moerman, then from 2007 to 2009 for Minister of Finance and Budget Dirk Van Mechelen. From 2009 to 2010 she was again a cabinet employee of Karel De Gucht, who was then a member of the European Commission.

Since 2007, she has been a municipal councilor in Aarschot. Rutten was a member of the Board of the King Baudouin Foundation.

In 2010, she was elected federal deputy, then in 2014 deputy in the Flemish Parliament.

She was also a core member of the independent think tank Liberales.[1] She was a member of the Board of the King Baudouin Foundation.
