Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20, 1964) is a US politician and lawyer serving as the junior United States senator from California since 2017.

A member of the Democratic Party, Kamala Harris was a prospective candidate in the US/2020 Presidential election – briefly becoming a frontrunner – before ending her campaign on 3 December 2019, citing a lack of funds to continue.

In August 2020, Kamala Harris became the presumptive Democratic vice presidential nominee for the US/2020 Presidential election, running alongside former vice president Joe Biden. She is the first African American and the first Asian American to be chosen as the running mate of a major party's presidential candidate.[1]
