Crown Princess Mary (born Mary Elizabeth Donaldson) is in her capacity as married to Crown Prince Frederik expected to become the Denmark's next queen.

Background

Mary comes from a Scottish immigrant family in Australia. The Crown Princess' father, Dr. John Dalgleish Donaldson, has taught at Oxford University. He was employed at the University of Tasmania from 1967 until he retired in2003 where he was head of the mathematics department and later dean of the faculty of science and technology. Subsequently, he has been a professor of applied mathematics at the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in South Korea. [1] Mary's mother is Henrietta Clark Horne. Both Mary's mother and father were born in Scotland and they moved to Tasmania in 1963.

In July 2006, John Donaldson became "wind ambassador" to support the Danish wind turbine industry.[2]

Overview

Mary holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Business Economics from the University of Tasmania. She received a diploma in marketing and advertising from The Advertising Federation of Australia (AFA) and the Australian Direct Marketing Association. She worked at DDB Needham (Melbourne) and Young & Rubicam (Sydney) before moving to Denmark in 2002 and joining Microsoft Business Solutions as a project consultant for business development, communication and marketing. She also worked in Edinburgh and Paris.

Mary met the Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark at a pub called "Slip Inn" during the Olympic Games in Sydney 2000. Mary Donaldson and Crown Prince Frederik were married on 14 May 2004 in Copenhagen Cathedral.

She was selected a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2012. Her husband was selected in 2003, and several other Scandinavian royals have participated.

The Crown Princess' mother tongue is English. She speaks Danish and French.
