Lt. Col. Pietro "Pete" Raffa was the Ohio Air National Guard commander out of Toledo, Ohio, Commander of Operations, 180th Fighter Wing scrambled on 9-11.

The Pentagon says he scrambled at 10:17,[citation needed] news reports from 2001 also mention this as the time of takeoff,[1][2] but eyewitness saw them at 09:00. "May have shot down the plane called Flight 93".[3]

Death

"Pietro “Pete” Raffa, the Perrysburg High School varsity boys' soccer coach and an Ohio Air National Guard commander, died of an apparent heart attack last night in St. Luke's Hospital.".[4][3]
