Philippe Camus is a French businessman who worked in the military-industrial complex. He attended the attended the 2003, 2004 and 2005 Bilderbergs as President of the huge military-industrial European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company. Between October 2008 and June 2016, he was the chairman of the board of directors of Alcatel-Lucent, before its merger with Nokia.[1][2] He is a senior advisor at investment bank Evercore Partners.[3]

Education

He is a former student of the École Normale Supérieure in Paris (ENS), a graduate of the Paris Institute of Political Studies (Economy and Finance section). He did his military service at the CIRO (Inter-Army Center for Operational Research) in Bagneux.

Career

He began his career in the financial management department of the Caisse des dépôts et consignations, the "investment arm" of the French State. In 1982 he joined the general management of the Lagardère group. In 1993 he was appointed Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Lagardère group, In 1999 he became Chairman of the Management Board of Aérospatiale Matra.

The Lagardère Group includes what was then the world's largest publishing house for magazines, Hachette Filipacchi Medias, which in turn owns 15% of EADS. Jean-Luc Lagardère's son, Arnaud Lagardère, ran the media division of the Lagardère Group, while Camus ran the defense and automobile companies. Matra Hautes Technologies, the armaments company of the Lagardère Group, merged under the personal direction of Camus with the state-owned Aérospatiale to form Aérospatiale-Matra in 1999, which was the first privatization of an aircraft manufacturer in France.

In the same year, the newly founded Aérospatiale Matra Group became part of the European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company (EADS), which was a conglomerate of DaimlerChrysler Aerospace (DASA), Aérospatiale Matra Group, and Construcciones Aeronauticas SA (CASA). Between 2000 and 2005 he was Executive Co-Chairman of EADS (later Airbus). During his time the Clearstream 2 affair was exposed. He had to give up his seat to Noël Forgeard, then president of Airbus, to return to the Lagardère Group.

He is an Officer of the Legion of Honor and holder of the Cross of Merit of Germany.
