Robin William Renwick, Baron Renwick of Clifton is a British former diplomat and politician who has been a life peer of the House of Lords since 1997. After retirement, he was on the board of many deep state connected corporations and organizations, such as RAND Europe, Hakluyt & Company, Open Europe, JPMorgan Chase

Diplomatic career

After attending St Paul's School (London), Renwick did military service in the British Army between 1956 and 1958 and entered 1963 after studying history at Jesus College, University of Cambridge, from which he graduated with a Master of Arts (History). He then entered the foreign service of the Foreign Office. After working at the Embassy in Senegal between 1963 and 1964 and then working at the headquarters of the Foreign Office, he worked at the High Commission in India from 1966 to 1969.

He then served as Private Secretary to the Minister of State in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office from 1970 to 1972 and then as First Secretary at the Embassy in France from 1972 to 1976, before becoming an adviser in the Cabinet Office until 1978. After serving as Head of Rhodesia at the Foreign Office from 1978 to 1980 and then briefly as Political Advisor to the Governor of Southern Rhodesia Christopher Soames, he was a Visiting Fellow at Harvard University's Center for International Affairs from 1980 to 1981. During this time he became a companion in 1980 of the Order of St Michael and St George.

He then worked as head of the chancellery of the US embassy until 1984, and after his return he was senior assistant to the undersecretary of state in the State Department from 1984 to 1987. In 1987 he succeeded Patrick Moberly as High Commissioner in South Africa, a position he held until he was replaced by Anthony Reeve in 1991.

In 1991 he returned to the USA and was ambassador there until he was replaced by John Kerr, Baron Kerr of Kinlochard in 1995.
