Sahra Wagenknecht is a German politician from the left wing Die Linke. She has dissented from her party, particularly on corona politics.

Early life

Sahra was born in East Germany to a German mother and Iranian father.

Career

She was a Member of the European Parliament before being elected to the Bundestag.

She became party leader and Leader of the Opposition in 2015.

Sahra resigned as leader in 2019 after suffering from burnout.

She has a YouTube channel which she uploads weekly videos. They rack up lots of views.

In 2021, she published the book "Die Selbstgerechten" ("The Self-Righteous") in which she criticises so-called "left-liberals" ("Linksliberale") for being neither left nor liberal but rather supporting the ruling classes' and, to some extent, their own interests. The book features, among several other topics, a discussion on immigration's negative impacts on the domestic working class. It reached number one in the German non-fiction bestseller-list as published by Der Spiegel.

Mrs Wagenknecht was re-elected at the September 2021 German parliamentary election but said that the results meant a "bitter defeat" for her party.

She opposes open borders and became a pariah in her own caucus. She criticised Angela Merkel for her immigration policies. She was even pied in the face with a chocolate cake at her party conference in 2016.

She is a critic of capitalism and imperialism. She voiced support for Hugo Chavez. She opposes cancel culture and censorship.
