Editing 101

Welcome to Wikispooks. Here is a help to get you started editing. If you have not edited in Wikipedia before, it can seem a bit daunting to get things right. Actually it's very easy to edit the contents of a wiki. It only takes a few clicks.

  • Click the “Edit” page tab at the top of the page.
  • Make changes to the text.
  • Click the “Save page” button.

Simple as that!

  • Be aware that Wikispooks doesn't have the same resources as Wikipedia. Our database only updates a few times a week (at random times), so most of the times your edits won't show on the front page. You are encouraged to spread contents on social media. You can also see the recent changes in the [changes] link on the front page.
  • A suggested first edit is to fix a typo or some awkward wording (plenty of those!) in an already existing article. Then progress to longer edits on existing articles. You probably have some subjects you are itching to add contents to.
  • A very good habit is to reference your additions well. This is normally with hyperlinks, they need marked with <ref> and </ref> and will show up at the bottom of the page.
  • Another good starting habit when editing is to be generous with internal link to other subjects, marked with [[ and ]].
  • Starting a new article requires a little bit more work, but go for it.
  • More experienced editors will normally monitor your work and give you help if necessary.
  • Tip:Look at how it is done in existing articles if you are struggling doing something.

Remember you can ask for help in the discussion tab of an article or in your own handle if you don't know how to do something.

Further tips

  • To add nested headlines use = or == or ===, and so forth, on both sides of it.
  • Entire documents can be uploaded, see: https://wikispooks.com/wiki/Template:Document
  • Simple quotes - that only get shown in that article - are started with {{QB| and the end bracket }}
  • For advanced quotes (SMWQ quotes) that will show up in other articles, see https://wikispooks.com/wiki/Template:SMWQ The places it will get shown depends on the |subjects=
