Christine Beerli is a Swiss politician who since 2008 has been Vice President of the International Red Cross[1]. Christine Beerli attended her first Bilderberg in 2018. She was one of 87 well-known Swiss political figures who signed a manifesto to "update" the 400 years of Swiss neutrality, instead aligning with NATO and the EU.
Education
She studied law at the University of Bern, graduating with a bachelor's degree in 1976.[2]
Career
She practiced in her own law firm from 1979 to 1998 in Biel in the canton of Bern.
She was a member of the City Council of Biel from 1980 to 1983, of the Grand Council of the canton of Bern from 1986 to 1991 and of the federal Council of States from 1991 to 2003. She was defeated by Hans-Rudolf Merz in the 2003 Federal Council elections.
From 1998 she was Director of the University of Applied Sciences Biel and from 2003 to autumn 2007 she was Director of the Department of Technology and Computer Science at the Bern University of Applied Sciences.[3]
Since January 1, 2008, she has been one of two vice-presidents of the [[International Committee of the Red Cross]. The positionsh is indefinite in time, in accordance with the ICRC Statutes.
She was chairman of Swissmedic, the institute responsible for monitoring the therapeutic products market, since January 1, 2006 and until 2018.
In addition, she was active as chairman of the Board of Trustees of the youth foundation Pro Juventute from 1996 to 2008.
