Emre Gönensay is a Turkish politician. He was a government technocrat advisor privatizing the Turkish economy in the early 1990s, and was Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey in 1996.[1]

Biography

He was born in 1937. He finished his high school education at Robert College in Istanbul. He left for the United States and earned a master's degree from Columbia University. Then he acquired a doctorate degree from the London School of Economics. After a while he returned to Turkey and continued his career as a Professor of Economics at Boğaziçi University.

Between 1970 and 1980 he was active as director in large Turkish companies and banks.

Between 1991 and 1993 he was the Plenipotentiary Ambassador to the Prime Minister's Advisor. Between 1993 and 1995, Gönensay was Plenipotentiary Ambassador to the President's Advisor, a "technocrat" responsible for privatization of the economy. Between December 1994 and 1995 he was again plenipotentiary ambassador to the Prime Minister's advisor.

He is a member of the True Path Party
