(politician, lobbyist, deep state actor)
|Born||Günther Hermann Oettinger|
Stuttgart, West Germany (Now Germany)
|Alma mater||University of Tübingen|
|Member of||German Council on Foreign Relations|
|Party||Christian Democratic Union|
Attended the 2018 Bilderberg as European Commissioner for Budget and Human Resources, while at the same time host for yearly lobbyist conference.
Günther Hermann Oettinger is a German lawyer and politician of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) who was European Commissioner for Budget and Human Resources from 2017 to 2019, as European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society from 2014 to 2016 and as European Commissioner for Energy from 2010 to 2014.
While being a high-level EU executive, he also is the host of a lobbyist conference, the Europa Forum Lech. The event is considered "social", and therefore not counted as lobbyist influencing, as the stay of the invited EU officials is paid over the EU budget, and not by the corporations.
Europa Forum Lech
Since 2011, Oettinger has hosted the Europa Forum Lech, named after the small town where it is held in the Austrian Alps. The event is held at an exclusive Austrian Alps chalet "beloved by British and Dutch royal families.", where a group of Brussels high rollers and EU corporate big wigs gather at the five-star Hotel Gasthof Post.
Top level executives are strongly preferred. The 2016 meeting had the theme of digital transformation, and the leaders were there "to hit the ski slopes, take in the sauna and talk digital."
The real draw of this event — known to some as “Günther’s mini-Davos” — is the chance to score face time with Oettinger and circulate among his hand-picked guest list of tech executives, political leaders and top EU officials.
The 2016 guests included telecoms CEOs José María Álvarez-Pallete López (Telefónica), Hannes Ametsreiter (Vodafone Germany) and Gavin Patterson (BT). Also attending: Giuseppe Recchi, Telecom Italia’s executive chairman; Carlo D’Asaro Biondo, Google’s president for strategic relationships for Europe, the Middle East and Africa; Giovanni Buttarelli, the European data privacy supervisor; and Wilhelm Molterer, the managing director of the European Fund for Strategic Investment and his adviser Marcus Schlüchter, and Arunjai Mittal (ICONIQ Capital).
