Jacob Rees-Mogg is a British politician who has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for North East Somerset since 2010. He was appointed Secretary of State for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy by Liz Truss in September 2022 but resigned the following month when Rishi Sunak became Prime Minister.
Jacob Rees-Mogg's earlier ministerial experience includes Leader of the House of Commons, Lord President of the Council and Minister of State for Brexit Opportunities and Government Efficiency .
A member of the hard right wing of the Conservative Party, he has been ideologically characterised as a High Tory and social conservative with reactionary, traditionalist, and right-wing populist views.
In October 2022, Business Minister Jacob Rees-Mogg was caught up in a cronyism row after his business partner and Somerset Capital Management co-founder Dominic Johnson was appointed a Minister in the Liz Truss' government.
