Marcello Ferrada de Noli is a Swedish professor emeritus of epidemiology, and the founder of the NGO Swedish Doctors for Human Rights.[1] He was noted for his public defense of Julian Assange[2], exposing the false flag gas attacks in Syria[3] and the Skripal case.[4] However, his human rights definition did not extend to the medical-political field; in November 2021, he publicly advocated for mandatory "vaccinations".

Early life

Ferrada de Noli was born on July 25, 1943 in Copiapó, Chile, is of Italian origin and descended from Antonio de Noli[5]. The father was an army officer and businessman, the mother was a professor at the Universidad de Concepción.

Ideologically, Ferrada de Noli in his youth had a classical liberal view, which, however, was transformed into more radical left-liberal positions during his university studies. He studied philosophy and law at the Universidad de Concepción, and was one of the founders of the Left-Wing Resistance Movement Movimiento de Izquierda Revolucionaria (MIR).[6][7] he was trained in guerrilla warfare in Cuba in 1964[8] and met there with Che Guevara.[9] He was one of the 13 leaders of MIR who received an arrest warrant issued by the Christian Democratic government led by Eduardo Frei in connection with the ban of MIR in 1969.

Ferrada de Noli was arrested in 1969, and first kept in one of the security police interrogation facilities[10] where he was subjected to torture[11] and then placed strictly isolated in Concepción prison.[12]

In 1970, he was living in exile in England and when Salvador Allende was elected president, Ferrada de Noli returned as professor of psychology at the Universidad de Chile then campus in Arica. He was a professor at the Universidad de Concepción at the time of the 1973 military coup in Chile. During MIR's resistance to the military coup, Ferrada de Noli was captured and interned first in the Estadio de Concepción, and finally on Isla Quiriquina.[13]

In 1974 he went to Italy[Why was this important prisoner released?][14] to participate as a witness at the Russell Tribunal in Rome, which reviewed human rights transgressions by the Government Junta of Chile.[15]

Professional career

He was Research Fellow and lecturer at Harvard Medical School,[16] and was later head of the research group of International and Cross-Cultural Injury Epidemiology at the Karolinska Institute until 2009.[17][18][19] Ferrada de Noli is known for his investigations on suicidal behaviour associated with severe trauma. He is the founder of the NGO Swedish Doctors for Human Rights, SWEDHR. He is also a writer, and painting artist.

Activities

He writes for the Indicter, the English voice of Swedish Doctors for Human Rights (SWEDHR).[20] He was noted for his public defense of Julian Assange[21], exposing the false flag gas attacks in Syria[22] and the Skripal case.[23]

In November 2021, he publicly advocated for mandatory vaccination against COVID-19, "If I had my way, I would make getting vaccinated – with the exception of clinical cases – obligatory for all citizens of all countries".[24]
