A postgraduate scholarship for "intellectually distinguished young Americans [and] their country's future leaders" to study at any university in the United Kingdom

Not to be confused with the spookier Marshall Memorial Fellowship

The Marshall Scholarship is a postgraduate scholarship for "intellectually distinguished young Americans [and] their country's future leaders" to study at any university in the United Kingdom.[1]

History

It was Created by the Parliament of the United Kingdom in 1953. The scholarships are awarded by the Marshall Aid Commemoration Commission and are largely funded by the British government.[2] It is named after General George C. Marshall and the Marshall Plan.

While the authors of the proposal initially considered partnering with the Rhodes Scholarship and even considered using the same selection committees, this idea was eventually disregarded

Other activities

The Association of Marshall Scholars hosts members of the United States Congress and members of the British Parliament for an annual bipartisan, cross-party US-UK Legislative Exchange. The four-day program features subject-matter experts and Marshall Scholars in Oxford and meetings with British government ministers, officials, and private sector leaders in London. Partners include the GCHQ, Henry Jackson Society and Chatham House[3].

Leadership

Board, advisory board and UK Friends of Marshall, as of April 2025.[4] The leadership contains many deep state actors.
