Oğuz Gökmen was a Turkish diplomat. He attended the 1975 Bilderberg meeting.

Early Life

He graduated from Galatasaray High School and Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences. After high school, he entered the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Civil Service School in Ankara, and graduated from there in 1940. Continuing his education in France, he entered the Sorbonne University and graduated from there in 1948. Gökmen, who entered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after his graduation, worked in the economic department. He was the General Manager of Economic and Social Affairs for a long time. In this capacity, he negotiated and signed many international economic agreements on behalf of Turkey.[1]

Ambassador

His service abroad began in 1944 as the Second Clerk and First Secretary of the Paris Embassy. After various diplomatic missions, he served as the ambassador to Argentina (1962-1964), the permanent representative of Turkey to the European Economic Community (1964-1966), then in West Germany (1966-1972), Yugoslavia (1976-1978) and Hungary ( 1980-1981).

He retired because of the age limit in 1981.

Gökmen has a married daughter. He speaks french. He has published books and many reviews and articles in French and Turkish. He is the father-in-law of Ambassador Volkan Vural.
