Oliver Coppard is the Labour Party Mayor of South Yorkshire.

Early life

Coppard is son of former Barnsley Council chief executive Phil Coppard.

Political career

In the UK/General election/2015, he stood for Labour in Sheffield Hallam constituency, narrowing Nick Cleggs majority from 15,284 to 2,353.[1]

In the 2016 EU Referendum, he ran the Remain campaign in Yorkshire and the Humber region.[2]

In 2018, he said he would not stand again for Labour as the party was a "hostile environment for all too many Jewish people like me”.[3]

In 2022, he was elected Mayor of South Yorkshire, succeeding Dan Jarvis.[4] He is an advocate of the 15-minute city concept, calling it "not radical".[5]
