The Balkans is an area of South Eastern Europe. The citizens living there have the lowest wages on average for at least the last 15 years, earning on average less than 50% of people in Western Europe. The wars in Yugoslavia in the 1990s have played a significant role in that.[1] [2]

The number of years different parts of the Balkans were under Ottoman influence.

History

The European Union and NATO have expanded into the Balkans.
