Rainer Wiegand was a colonel in the East German intelligence service Stasi[1]

In January 1990, as East Germany was collapsing, Wiegand fled to West Germany with two large suitcases full of highly sensitive Stasi documents.[2]

Death

Wiegand together with his wife "died in a mysterious car crash" in Spain.[3][4]
