Vasilios Basil Kafiris was a Greek economist with significant US ties, with many years of studies and work in Indiana, USA. He was one of the founders in 1974 of later governing party PASOK with Andreas Papandreou.
After Papandreou came to power, he became Deputy Governor, then became Governor of the Agricultural Bank of Greece[1][2][3]

Vasilis Kafiris was a consistent and always modest soldier of the Democratic Party. From the ranks of the PAK, he fought against the seven years of the junta. Then with the post-dictatorship, as the founding member of PASOK, along with Andreas Papandreou, something which linked them with a close friendship, he again gave the present for the construction of democracy and change. His contribution to the rural world of the country was great, with the modernization of the Agricultural Bank, in which he served as governor until 1987. But also with his scientific and research work in the USA, where he was found for his postgraduate studies, he received great recognition from the university community and the state.[4]
