The Institute for the Study of Violent Groups (ISVG) was officially formed in 2002 under the leadership of Dr. Richard Ward and Dr. Sean Hill at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX. The establishment of ISVG formalized the open source research that Dr. Richard Ward and others have been conducting on "terrorism" and organized crime through the Office of International of Criminal Justice since its founding in 1983.
Currently, ISVG employs a culturally diverse staff of more than 15 researchers and technical specialists. ISVG has a language capability of more than 14 languages, including Arabic, Sinhalese, Russian, Mandarin Chinese, Korean, Thai, and Turkish.
