Tzipi Hotovely is an Israeli ultra-right diplomat and former politician who is the current Ambassador of Israel to the United Kingdom.[1] As a politician, she was Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Diaspora Affairs, Minister of Settlement Affairs, and as a member of the Knesset for the Likud party.[2]

Two-state solution

On 16 December 2023, the Spectator published an article entitled "The two-state solution is dead" which began:

"Tzipi Hotovely has committed the gravest sin in diplomacy: speaking candidly. In an interview with Sky News, Israel’s ambassador to the Court of St James’s rejected the creation of a Palestinian Arab state. Hotovely told a plainly horrified Mark Austin there could ‘absolutely not’ be a Palestinian state now, saying: ‘It’s about time for the world to realise that the Oslo paradigm failed on 7 October.’

"She added: ‘Israel knows today and the world should know now that the Palestinians never wanted to have a state next to Israel. They want to have a state from the river to the sea. They are saying it loud and clear'."[3]

Petition to expel

A petition started by Dr Asim Suleman called for Tzipi Hotovely to be expelled gained over 47,000 signatures within a few days:

"I am deeply concerned about the potential radicalisation of our UK population due to the presence and influence of the current Israeli Ambassador. As a citizen who values peace, unity, and respect for all, I find it alarming that an ambassador could potentially incite division and extremism within our society.

"The role of an ambassador is to foster good relations between countries, promote mutual understanding, and work towards peaceful coexistence. However, when their presence becomes a source of discord rather than harmony, it's time to reassess their position.

"This petition is not against Israel or its people but against actions that could potentially harm our society's fabric. We urge the UK government to consider this matter seriously for maintaining peace within our borders.

"Please join me in calling on our government to expel the Israeli Ambassador from the United Kingdom. Sign this petition today![4]
