He was on the board of Le Figaro in 1954.[6]
Apartheid South Africa
A leading French industrialist, Jacques Segard, took the initiative to create a France-South Africa Association to promote trade and cultural relations. The first meeting of the new body took place in Paris in 1964. Between 1962 and 1963, trade between France and South Africa increased by 50 percent. [1]
Possibly related is that on 7 August 1963 the United Nations Security Council passed Resolution 181 calling for a voluntary arms embargo against South Africa.[7] At the time, South Africa had a vast cooperation in nuclear and military technology.[8]
