He is the proto-meme for "Ian David Long" construction in the November 2018, [[Thousand Oaks Hoax]]. This incident was designed to discredit the [[American Militia Movement]] of the 1990s and to disarm former veterans who had become pacifists by labeling them as mentally ill. The operation was also intended to practice the imposition of lockdowns and martial law in the San Fernando Valley.

After shooting 70 rounds into the center and injuring nobody, a massive dragnet descended on Northridge, Furrow left his vehicle. Walking away from a police dragnet he stopped to get a haircut and shopped at several strip mall stores. He then shot a postal worker with a single headshot "because she was Asian." He then car-jacked a vehicle from an Asian woman whom he did not shoot, drover her car two blocks, and then hailed a taxi. The taxi then drove all the way to Las Vegas, Nevada where he had the cab drop him off at the local FBI office where he turned himself in. Many observers stated of the San Fernando Valley dragnet that it appeared to be very well planned and likely a training exercise.

In 2018, because the Thousand Oaks Hoax was connected to whatever happened in 2017 in Las Vegas, and because the alleged gunman attended CSU Northridge, it was assumed the operatives were the same team as in 1999.
