A by-election will be held in the former constituency of Edward Heath, following the sudden death of the incumbent Conservative MP James Brokenshire. A date was set on 3 November, for 2 December.[1]

Candidates

The Labour Party does not appear to be attempting to win the safe tory seat. The candidate was be chosen from an NEC approved shortlist of four, all from London but only one of which is from Bexley Borough.[2] This process ignored a rule change made at conference.[3] On 29 October the Labour candidate chosen was local Bexley councillor Daniel Francis.[4]

The Conservatives chose local councillor Louie French as their candidate on 30 October.[5]

The Reform UK candidate will be Richard Tice.[6]
