Career

His career is undistinguished, and it is not immediately obvious why he was appointed Prime Minister. After finishing university in 1991, he started working as a public accountant, then as an official in the Health Ministry from 1996. Between 2000-2010 he worked in regional administration. From 2010 until 2011, Castex served under Health Minister Xavier Bertrand as Chief of Staff in François Fillon's ministry. He succeeded Raymond Soubie as Secretary-General of the Élysée under President Nicolas Sarkozy between 2011 and 2012.

After that Castex worked as regional councilor until 2017, when he was appointed interdepartmental delegate to the 2024 Olympics; he was also appointed as President of the National Sports Agency.[1] On 2 April 2020, he was appointed coordinator of the phasing out of the lockdown implemented in France during the COVID-19 pandemic, before he became PM on 3 July 2020.

COVID-19/Censorship

On the 24. December 2020, Prime Minister Jean Castex changed the public health code.
