The World Trade Organisation (WTO) is an intergovernmental organisation headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland that regulates and facilitates international trade.
Following signature by 123 nations in Marrakesh on 14 April 1994 of the Uruguay Round Agreements, the WTO officially commenced operations on 1 January 1995 and replaced the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) that had been established in 1948.[1]
