Iris Robinson is the DUP MP for Strangford.

Black propaganda allegations

Robinson has claimed that the British Government started rumours that her husband, Peter Robinson beat her.

"This malicious lie was started by the [British] government in an attempt to blacken Peter's name when he was protesting at the Anglo-Irish Agreement. It took root because I was in hospital 17 times during that period with gynaecological problems, " she explained.[1]

Spotlight allegations

In January 2010, a BBC Spotlight documentary made a number of allegations against Robinson:

BBC Northern Ireland's Spotlight programme said Iris Robinson, an MP, an MLA and a councillor, obtained £50,000 from two property developers.
The money was paid to her 19-year-old lover to help him launch a cafe. She later asked him for £5,000 for herself.[2]

According to BBC, the two property developers concerned were Fred Fraser, later deceased, and Ken Campbell.[3]
