Synthetic drugs which mimic the effects of opiates, widely used recreationally and as analgesics.

An opioid is a drug which acts upon the body in a similar way to opium. Many have been invented since the development of the first, morphine. Some are totally synthetic,[citation needed] some are refinements of a plant product such as opium.

Overdose

Fatal overdoses can happen,especially with the more potent opioids such as fentanyl.
