Education

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific. He received a B.A. in international relations from Stanford University in 1950.

Career

He then worked in Europe for both the Marshall Plan and the Central Intelligence Agency.[2][3]

He began his thirty-three year career at the illustrious publishing company Time Inc. as an advertising salesman for Life Magazine in 1954. He was publisher of Time Magazine in the 1970's and became Chairman of the Board of Time Inc. in 1980.[2]

He was on the board of the New York City Ballet, was chairman of the Business Committee for the Arts, was a member of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's business committee, and active in raising money for the Rockefeller family's Museum of Modern Art.[4]
