A patsy is a person set up to take the blame for a crime which he/she did not commit.
On wikispooks, use of the term should be understood as likely or probably patsy. It is mainly applied to individuals (occasionally groups) who feature in Official Narrative's as the perpetrator(s) (often as Lone nut gunmen) in crimes with a deep political significance; and where there is compelling evidence that they are either totally innocent or have been engineered/provoked (wittingly or unwittingly) into action as part of a conspiracy. Examples from UK history are The Gunpowder Plot of 16 [1] [2] and the Walsall bomb plot of 1890. [3] [4] [5]
