Institute for Statecraft program director who researched "online radicalisation of Muslim youths globally in order to both counter and build resistance of young people through education platforms that help and teach how to discern untruth and analyse conspiracy theories from truth and reality."

Yusuf Desai was a senior fellow of the Institute for Statecraft whose specialist area was listed as "Societal Integration, Ethnic Communities; Youth Engagement".[1] The IfS website stated on December 2018 that he was directing an Ifs program entitled A Common Future: Dialogue and Education for Societal Integration and Leadership which "develops constructive engagement between British Muslims and wider British society through the establishment of a multi-purpose education programme devoted to enhancing dialogue and understanding between the British Muslim community and mainstream society".[2]

Background

"Yusuf has an MSc in International Security and Global Governance from [the] University of London."[3]

Activities

Desai accompanied Harold Elletson (also of the IfS) to the MidSummit conference in Reykjavik in 2017.[4]

In 2017 Yusuf was "researching ISIS propaganda and online radicalisation of Muslim youths globally in order to both counter and build resistance of young people through education platforms that help and teach how to discern untruth and analyse conspiracy theories from truth and reality."[5]

Opinions

“I would very strongly recommend review of current Green Paper plans and strategies to address social cohesion in order to combat UK and global radicalization issues and threats to state security. There is little precedent for the scale of action needed over the next decade. The dangers are clear and immediate to those who are involved in safeguarding life and limb and wellbeing of British society.”
Yusuf Desai (2018)  [6]
