Education
Philippe Lagayette is a former student of the École polytechnique. He was admitted to the National School of Administration, graduating in 1970. He choose the General Inspectorate of Finance as his mandatory service.
Career
He was director of the cabinet of Jacques Delors (Minister of the Economy and Finance) from 1981 to 1984.[1] In 1984, he became second deputy governor of the Bank of France, then first deputy governor in 1990, a position he held until 1992, when he was appointed general manager of the Caisse des dépôts et consignations, from 1992 to 1997.[2]
He was given the job of Vice-President of JPMorgan Europe Middle East Africa. According to Jean-Michel Quatrepoint, this waas be an example of conniving capitalism, where senior French officials are recruited by the American business community "to open the doors and to facilitate mergers and acquisitions of French companies that the banks will launch"[3]
In 1999, he was appointed chairman of the orientation council of the Agency for the modernization of universities and higher education institutions[4] and became a member of the Circle of Economists.[5]
His board positions as of January 2010 was: Fimalac, PPR, Renault, Chairman of the board of directors of the French-American Foundation - France and the Fondation de France from October 2010 to May 2017. He was also vice-president and senior advisor of Barclays bank.
On November 21, 2018, he was temporarily appointed to lead the Renault Board of Directors while Thierry Bolloré, appointed deputy chief executive officer, to take over as interim CEO from Carlos Ghosn.[6]
He is a member of the Board of trustees of the Jacques Delors Institute.[7]
