The president of the United Republic of Tanzania is the head of state and head of government of the United Republic of Tanzania. The president leads the executive branch of the Government of Tanzania and is the commander-in-chief of the Tanzania People's Defence Force.[1]

Julius Nyerere was President for 5 terms total from 1962–1985.

John Magufuli was widely criticised by commercially-controlled media after questioning the WHO's narrative about COVID-19.[2] In February 2021, The Guardian headlined an article It's time for Africa to rein in Tanzania's anti-vaxxer president, and the next month he died, reportedly of heart failure.[3]
