Victor Bulmer-Thomas is a British academic who has specialised in Latin America and the Caribbean. He was a director at Chatham House from 2001 until 2006.[1]

Background

His father was the writer, politician and spook Ivor Bulmer-Thomas.

He studied at New College, Oxford University for his undergraduate degree, where he obtained a first. In 1975 he graduated with a PhD from St Antony's College, Oxford, with an original dissertation on Costa Rica.

Career

From 1992 to 1998 he was Director of the Institute of Latin American Studies at University of London.[1]

From 2001 to 2006 he was Director of Chatham House.[1]

He is the author or editor of some thirty books on the Americas.[2]

He was a non-executive director of the JP Morgan Brazil Investment Trust from 2010 to 2020.[1]
