Poisoning is the administration of a poison, whether intentionally or accidentally. It tends to be used on this website to refer to acute fatal events such as happened at Jonestown.
Acute v. chronic
Poisonings may be chronic, in which case lifetime exposure is important (for example to lead) or acute. They may be fatal or cause disability, or those affected may be able to make a complete recovery.
