The Purdue University system is a public university system in the U.S. state of Indiana. A land-grant university with nearly 75,000 students across six traditional campuses comprising five institutions, a statewide technology program, extension centers in each of Indiana's 92 counties, and continuing education programs. Purdue's main campus in West Lafayette is the best-known, noted for its highly regarded programs in engineering and adjacent subjects.

Military-industrial complex

Discovery Park was launched in 2001 with a grant from the state of Indiana and expanded by a $25 million Lilly Endowment as a nanotechnology center. By 2022, it is a $1.15 billion research and learning complex that combines Purdue’s research and educational expertise in science, engineering, technology, and biology, with connections to the corporate world. Discovery Park is engaged in vital research on biomorphic robots, automatic target recognition for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, automatic targeting for drones, and other technologies.

One of Discovery Park’s core strengths is “Global Security.” Key research on this subject is designed to respond to security threats, global instability, defense needs, terrorism, nuclear deterrence, and proliferation, basically responding to “the most pressing security and defense challenges facing the nation and the world.”

But the staff officers who compiled the report knew that their work was incomplete . Within weeks, another campus connection was exposed in the press.
