In 2019, Chad Elwartowski and Nadia Summergirl set up a small seastead 13 miles off the coast of Thailand. The Thai navy raided it. Now in hiding they were told they might face the death penalty for violating Thai sovereignty.[1]


In 1957, at the start of the Vietnam War, it is estimated that there were between 18,000 and 20,000 prostitutes in Thailand. After opening seven military bases, the US army invested $16,000,000 in the Thai economy annually. In 1964, the number of prostitutes had grown to 400,000. The Pentagon was responsible for creating what Senator J. William Fulbright called, like South Vietnam, "an American brothel" in Asia.[2]


Thailand is expected to rely mainly on the Oxford–AstraZeneca vaccine through a manufacturing deal secured by palace-owned Siam Bioscience company, with first batches produced in June 2021.
