DescriptionThe theme for the invited "stakeholders" was "rebuilding trust in the international system". Who exactly were are to trust remains a secret, as 95% of the participants were not disclosed.

Topics reportedly included Ukraine, Middle East and Taiwan and artificial intelligence.[1] Turkey will snub Davos over Gaza.[2]

Digital ID tracking vaccination

Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, at the session "Comparing Notes on Financial Inclusion", told that digital ID "is also good for school enrollment; it is also good for health — who actually got a vaccination or not; it’s very good actually to get your subsidies from the government"[3]

Censorship

In a special address delivered at Annual Meeting 2024, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, emphasized the need to tackle misinformation and disinformation and address polarization, stating they "limit our capabilities in handling other risks, including conflicts, climate and technology." She stated that this will "require collaboration between countries and business and that our joint capacity to respond was far stronger than we might believe, forming a "new connective tissue" to "deliver the solutions we need, to fight threats like climate change or industrial-scale disinformation."[4] Clamping down on this was particularly a priority since 2024 was an election year.[4]

"These risks are serious because they limit our ability to tackle the big global challenges we are facing: changes in our climate – and our geopolitical climate; shifts in our demography and in our technology; spiralling regional conflicts and intensified geopolitical competition and their impacts on supply chains," she said.[4]

She also said "that wind and solar power hit another record in the European Union in 2023", while the European Union "improved the efficiency of its energy use – the best energy is the one that is not used – by almost 5%."[4] (That is, people are going cold while industry is shutting down).

Speakers

Speakers included conservationist Jane Goodall, musician Nile Rodgers, Sam Altman the CEO of OpenAI which created ChatGPT, and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.[5]
