Hannes Adomeit was a German Cold Warrior and political scientist who headed the German cluster of the Integrity Initiative, possibly reporting to Harold Elletson.[1]

Background

Adomeit was born in Memel, which for a few years during WW2 was part of East Prussia[2]

He studied at the Free University of Berlin and received his PhD from Columbia University in 1972.

Career

From 1972 to 1973 he was a research associate at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in London. From 1973 to 1977 he was a lecturer in Soviet foreign and security policy at the Institute for Soviet and East European Studies at the University of Glasgow. From 1977 to 1979 he was in Kingston, Canada, deputy director of the Center for International Relations at Queen's University and visiting professor at the Royal Military College.

From 1979 to 1989, he was a research associate at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs in Ebenhausen and Berlin, from 1997 to 2007 in Berlin. From 1989 to 1997 he was associate Professor of International Politics at Tufts University in Boston, from 2006 to 2014 part-time professor at the College of Europe in Natolin, Poland.[3][4]

He worked with the American Institute for Contemporary German Studies (AICGS) at Johns Hopkins University[5] as well as Bosch Public Policy Fellow at the Transatlantic Academy in Washington, D.C.[6] and Non-Resident Fellow at the Institute for Security Politics at the University of Kiel (ISPK),[7] from where he also led the German cell of the Integrity Initiative.

He died on 25 April 2022 in Berlin, aged 79.[2]
