|[[Description::The official narrative of TWA Flight 800 was fixed, that the event was an accident, and that the hundred's of eyewitnesses who thought that they saw a missile were mistaken. The US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright admitted CIA responsibility for the 1953 coup in Iran.]]|
August 23 saw the conclusion of the most expensive air disaster investigation in United States history. The four-year NTSB investigation concluded that TWA Flight 800 was caused by a gas tank explosion and that the extensive eyewitness testimony suggesting a missile was mistaken.
In 2000, the US state department changed its official narrative about the 1953 Iranian coup d'état when the US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright openly referred to the US role in the coup.[Where?] This was later confirmed by CIA released documents which admitted that "The military coup... was carried out under CIA direction as an act of US foreign policy".
